Pappadeaux – Revisited (and some cupcake porn)

It was my bestie’s birthday, last weekend – so…you know what that means! Dinner out and yummy cupcakes!

Dinner first – the boys suggested Pappadeaux. Yes, I’ve been there AND I’ve reviewed it. I think it’s okay. I thought, maybe, this time, it would shove me into the “like it” club. It was our friends, first time there, so…I’m always interested to see if my opinion is wrong (let’s face it, it’s usually NOT…;) )

Okay, our server was very awkward. I wasn’t sure if she was new or what was going on. But, she looked like we were going to bite her at any given moment. Just, zero natural social skills (which is kind of vital for a server!).

The birthday girl and I ordered a Swamp Thing (the big one – hey, it was only $1 more!)

It was frozen. And, fruity. And, reminded me of vacation = I liked it.

Each table gets bread…

It’s good – much better in the garlic bread form, however!

This is where I start having issues – ordering! What I WANT is just too damn expensive and I refuse to pay it. I WANT the Chilean Sea Bass and Grilled Shrimp. It’s $32.99. NOT going to happen. This is the thing…if this were an UPscale restaurant, I’d have zero issues dropping the cash. But, it’s not. Believe me, when I tell you that I’m not scared to spend money on good food. To me, this was NOT a justified time to do it.

So, I decided that I was just going to eat some of what the husband wanted and order a separate cup of Lobster Bisque to start. (and, yes, it hurts my feelings a little bit that the CUP of soup was almost $9!)

However, it was really frickin’ delicious! I could have had a big old bowl of that and called it a day. The husband was eyeballing it, so I got about 6 bites in and then he took over! Brat.

Our boy bestie got the Clam Chowder (and, he, completely failed taking this pic!)

He said it was awesome, too (but, I’m sure not as good as my Lobster Bisque – btw, anyone else feeling a Seinfeld episode, right now?)

So – what did the husband order and split with me? The Pappadeaux Platter! (which is what we got last time and what our friends got, too) Grrrr. But, I agreed to it.

This is just MY portion! His was just as big (but, he got the stuffed shrimp – boo) Again, it was fine. But, to me, it all tasted the same. ALL of the “stuffed” items, were stuffed with the same damn thing! I threw the stuffed crab at my husband and forced him to give me the shrimp. The fish was kind of dry and I hate saying this (okay, maybe I don’t) but my fish, from LJS, was 100% better than this overpriced crap! LJS? $4

Everyone at the table, but me, raved about the fries. I kept tasting them, trying to see what was so different about mine. I think I’m a fry snob. Okay, I KNOW I’m a fry snob. It takes a lot to impress me, fry-wise.

I’m just NOT impressed with Pappadeaux…at all. I’d be good with never going back again.

But – onto YUMMY things! My bestie is a hostess addict. Yes, you can see where last week and their bankruptcy posed a problem for her. She’s hitting withdrawal stage. So, she wanted a hostess type cupcake!

This is a cream filled, chocolate cupcake with chocolate ganache icing and white icing “swirl”…

It’s so pretty.

Here’s another shot…

And, just because they make me smile…

All is right in the world again. See how cupcakes make everything all better?

My advice is…skip Pappadeaux and go for the cupcakes.
