Sawyer’s Farmhouse – Pigeon Forge, TN

A couple of things – I’m on a crazy strict diet right now so there aren’t going be many reviews, sadly. My life consists of chicken, fish and veggies right now.

Also – I was given a brief (2 day!) reprieve from my diet and was able to eat what I want. Let me just say, no sugar for 9 weeks will make a girl crazy. Hence, why I probably loved this breakfast! (I was like Elf with the syrup)

The husband and I went for a weekend trip to Pigeon Forge a few weeks ago – it was nice, just the 2 of us getting away. REALLY nice being able to eat some food. 😉

I read some good things about Sawyer’s Farmhouse and wanted something different – something that wasn’t a Waffle House, a Pancake House or a buffet. The place is huge AND there’s a great big rooster outside. Damn, gotta love that. I couldn’t convince the husband to selfie with the rooster.

Coffee was immediately ordered (of course)

Life without coffee is not a life worth living. Truth.

The husband decided on the Mountain Man. Of course. I don’t think he had any decision-making issues at all.  3 eggs, home fries, biscuit and gravy, sampling of all breakfast meats and 3 pancakes. Hello, big breakfast!

And, all together now…

Mike's big breakfast

I would like to tell you that he didn’t eat it all. That would be a lie. To be fair – we eat healthy 90% of our life. It’s what deprivation will do to a person.

I couldn’t make up my damn mind! I really wanted a bowl type thing with home fries, toppings and a runny egg on top but that wasn’t an option. So – I went with cinnamon, syrupy goodness

Sawyer's french toast

It was soooo good. Lots of cinnamon and powdered sugar AND I requested some blueberry syrup. Yum.

And, to make my carb load complete…home fries!

Sawyer's home fries

Those are perfect home fries – super crispy. Could have popped them like potato chips. Oh wait, I did. I don’t think I ever used my fork!

I know so many people always look for good breakfast joints – THIS is it, people! If you’re in Pigeon Forge and looking for some good early eats, go to Sawyer’s Farmhouse! (I hear they do an awesome lunch, too!)

IHOP – Prattville, AL

You might think I’m lying but…this was only my 2nd trip to an IHOP, ever. Yes, it’s true. I think my feelings about breakfast have been made pretty clear. My daughter was giving me the “are you crazy” look when I asked if they had more than pancakes. Oh, I’m sorry – this place IS named after pancakes.

After our stay at the weird Alabama hotel, we swung by for breakfast before cruising into Destin. I really just wanted coffee <–the story of my life.

I loved the hostess – she was like a drill sergeant. She might not have been personable but she was getting the job DONE. I can appreciate that.

Early morning. Must have coffee

It’s not fancy. And, it wasn’t amazing coffee. But it got the caffeine job done.

And, my son got some hot chocolate – he’s quickly becoming a hot chocolate connoisseur. Is there such a thing?

I thought the different types of syrup were cute.

I struggled with what to order – I don’t like fluffy items in the morning. So, I settled for a bacon omelette with avocado. AND…I don’t have a picture. I have no clue what happened there – total camera fail. But, I got my omelette and it didn’t come out with avocado because they were OUT of avocado. Information that would have been useful BEFORE ordering. But, whatever, I still had bacon. It was okay. The hashed browns were crispy on the outside but failed on the inside. And, again, my foodie soul was unimpressed.

Other items ordered…

Chocolate pancakes

Puke. I couldn’t even watch my son eat these. Way too much chocolate (with syrup!) for the morning hours!

And, the infamous IHOP pancakes

I took a bite of my daughter’s and yes, they were good. 😉

I’m indifferent about IHOP – it was fine. It served it’s purpose for our breakfast trip. Fed my hungry hippos and gave me an abundance of coffee.

First Watch – Harrison Green

Oddly enough, I’ve never been to ANY First Watch. My breakfast of choice is usually coffee. Just coffee. We’re not really the wake up early on a Saturday morning, get a big breakfast, type of family. We’re the “hey, let’s go to Servatti’s and grab some donuts” people. So, breakfast isn’t my thing. Hence, no First Watch.

I’ve heard awesome things about it. Everyone raves about how amazing the food is.  My initial thought response? It’s eggs, people – calm down. 😉

The boy and I were going to see Antman (surprisingly, a REALLY funny movie!) and we swung by the new First Watch for a late morning breakfast.

It is beautiful inside. Love the set-up. The tables are pretty. And, we got right in (since there were only 2 of us, the odds were in our favor). I did notice that we were the youngest people eating that day.

Our server was awesome – she was helpful, on top of things and had a smile on her face.  As we looked over the menu, we got a coffee (well, I did) and a hot chocolate (the boy).

First Watch Drinks

REALLY delicious coffee. I liked that they had nice creamers too (not that I consume hazelnut but…) AND, I got the whole pot. Woohoo!

And, because I love him…

I think we studied the menu way too long but we ended up with The Trifecta (chocolate chip pancake, scrambled eggs, bacon)

Mikey was impressed with the attractive syrup bottle.

He loved his chocolate chip pancake!

I got the Key West Crepeggs

First Watch Mine 2

After such a great first visual impression, I really wanted to be in love with it. I wasn’t. It was good. The potatoes were pretty boring – I wish they were shredded or have some spice or something. My english muffin was a little hard. BUT – I loved the details (the side of strawberry jelly, ketchup without asking, the choice of chalula as the hot sauce…) My eggs were okay – a good amount of avocado (which is rare!) But, I can’t say that I was overwhelmed by any of the food.

First Watch had a lot of positives – this being one of them.

First Watch Napkin Holder

It’s beautiful. I like the open kitchen. Service was fantastic and fast! I love the details – everything given without asking. Coffee was delicious. Water bottle on the table. Pretty syrup. Awesome hot sauce. Price point, $24, was good.  (I was warned that it was pricey – and I have issues paying lots of money for EGGS. Perspective.) For me, the food was the one “eh”.

I’m sure I’ll be back but it wasn’t love at first bite.
