Sawyer’s Farmhouse – Pigeon Forge, TN

A couple of things – I’m on a crazy strict diet right now so there aren’t going be many reviews, sadly. My life consists of chicken, fish and veggies right now.

Also – I was given a brief (2 day!) reprieve from my diet and was able to eat what I want. Let me just say, no sugar for 9 weeks will make a girl crazy. Hence, why I probably loved this breakfast! (I was like Elf with the syrup)

The husband and I went for a weekend trip to Pigeon Forge a few weeks ago – it was nice, just the 2 of us getting away. REALLY nice being able to eat some food. 😉

I read some good things about Sawyer’s Farmhouse and wanted something different – something that wasn’t a Waffle House, a Pancake House or a buffet. The place is huge AND there’s a great big rooster outside. Damn, gotta love that. I couldn’t convince the husband to selfie with the rooster.

Coffee was immediately ordered (of course)

Life without coffee is not a life worth living. Truth.

The husband decided on the Mountain Man. Of course. I don’t think he had any decision-making issues at all.  3 eggs, home fries, biscuit and gravy, sampling of all breakfast meats and 3 pancakes. Hello, big breakfast!

And, all together now…

Mike's big breakfast

I would like to tell you that he didn’t eat it all. That would be a lie. To be fair – we eat healthy 90% of our life. It’s what deprivation will do to a person.

I couldn’t make up my damn mind! I really wanted a bowl type thing with home fries, toppings and a runny egg on top but that wasn’t an option. So – I went with cinnamon, syrupy goodness

Sawyer's french toast

It was soooo good. Lots of cinnamon and powdered sugar AND I requested some blueberry syrup. Yum.

And, to make my carb load complete…home fries!

Those are perfect home fries – super crispy. Could have popped them like potato chips. Oh wait, I did. I don’t think I ever used my fork!

I know so many people always look for good breakfast joints – THIS is it, people! If you’re in Pigeon Forge and looking for some good early eats, go to Sawyer’s Farmhouse! (I hear they do an awesome lunch, too!)

The Breakfast Table – Destin 2015

We eat one breakfast out while in Destin. My breakfast usually consists of coffee and later, pina coladas on the beach. I enjoy Another Broken Egg cafe but it’s pretty pricey (like $80+) for breakfast. I go to my normal mantra…it’s EGGS, people. So, every year we try a new breakfast place. This year, it was The Breakfast Table.

Our group of 8 got right in around 9:30AM – the place is cute but small. (closed on Wednesdays)

I had no clue what I was going to get. I think I was still deciding right up until we ordered. You know what I did need? Coffee!

Coffee is heaven in a cup.

Items ordered…

Chocolate Milk – not pretty but it’s chocolate milk

Some sort of breakfast – hey, it was early!

Breakfast Burrito (mine’s so much better!)

Pancakes – chocolate chip

Breakfast table pancakes

Both of my kids thought that the chocolate chips in the pancakes tasted weird. Not sure if they use a dark chocolate chip or what but they both said it wasn’t good.

Mine – the Breakfast Sundae

Breakfast table sundae

It was hash browns topped with eggs, bacon and cheese. I added avocado and hollandaise sauce because I wasn’t happy with the “sundae” 😉

The portion was kind of small for it being $10ish. Taste-wise – it was just okay. If I wouldn’t have added those 2 toppings, I would have been pretty disappointed.

I was looking for something better and a little less expensive. This wasn’t it. Guess we’re back to the breakfast hunting next year! (My kids are pushing for The Pancakery again – they love it)

IHOP – Prattville, AL

You might think I’m lying but…this was only my 2nd trip to an IHOP, ever. Yes, it’s true. I think my feelings about breakfast have been made pretty clear. My daughter was giving me the “are you crazy” look when I asked if they had more than pancakes. Oh, I’m sorry – this place IS named after pancakes.

After our stay at the weird Alabama hotel, we swung by for breakfast before cruising into Destin. I really just wanted coffee <–the story of my life.

I loved the hostess – she was like a drill sergeant. She might not have been personable but she was getting the job DONE. I can appreciate that.

Early morning. Must have coffee

It’s not fancy. And, it wasn’t amazing coffee. But it got the caffeine job done.

And, my son got some hot chocolate – he’s quickly becoming a hot chocolate connoisseur. Is there such a thing?

I thought the different types of syrup were cute.

I struggled with what to order – I don’t like fluffy items in the morning. So, I settled for a bacon omelette with avocado. AND…I don’t have a picture. I have no clue what happened there – total camera fail. But, I got my omelette and it didn’t come out with avocado because they were OUT of avocado. Information that would have been useful BEFORE ordering. But, whatever, I still had bacon. It was okay. The hashed browns were crispy on the outside but failed on the inside. And, again, my foodie soul was unimpressed.

Other items ordered…

Veggie Omelette

Chocolate pancakes

Puke. I couldn’t even watch my son eat these. Way too much chocolate (with syrup!) for the morning hours!

And, the infamous IHOP pancakes

I took a bite of my daughter’s and yes, they were good. 😉

I’m indifferent about IHOP – it was fine. It served it’s purpose for our breakfast trip. Fed my hungry hippos and gave me an abundance of coffee.
